The Cara Cara navel orange is a distinctive variety of seedless navel orange celebrated for its vibrant, pinkish-to-reddish-orange flesh, which gets its color from high levels of lycopene—a carotenoid antioxidant—rather than the anthocyanins found in blood oranges. This gives it a visually striking appearance inside its deep orange rind, often resembling a cross between a blood orange and a grapefruit, though it's botanically a mutation of the standard Washington navel orange. The fruit is medium-sized (typically smaller than regular navels), with thin, easy-to-peel skin, minimal pith, and flesh that separates cleanly from the rind for effortless eating.

Flavor-wise, Cara Caras stand out for their exceptionally sweet profile with low acidity, often carrying subtle berry-like notes (reminiscent of raspberry or blackberry) and a hint of spice, making them more complex and less tart than typical navels.

Cara Cara navels shine when eaten fresh as a snack, in salads, or juiced for a mild, sweet beverage. They're also excellent in desserts, salsas (pairing diced flesh with tomatoes, cilantro, and lime), or even grilled for caramelized edges.
